The Belogradchik Rocks are impressive sandstone rocks with bizarre shapes spread over an area of about 50 square kilometers. The Belogradchik rocks vary in colour from red to yellow and are up to 200 metres high. Because of their imaginative shapes they have been given names of animals or objects and are mentioned in many legends. The rocks have names like "Adam and Eve", "Shepherd boy", "Bear", "Lion", "Madonna" and the "Horseman". The central group of rocks has the most impressive formations and borders the city, they are so bizarrely formed by a natural process of erosion.
The Belogradchik Rocks are a natural monument. There are five hiking trails in this beautiful area to see the rocks.
