A graceful tree that grows on the sandstone. Its root is partially above the ground. The tree is located on the top of the Lilienstein mountain in Saxon Switzerland (in the east of Germany). I associate beautiful memories of intense hikes with this place.
This monochrome work is dedicated to silent places, as well as old trees and their strong roots. I particularly like to draw the organic shapes of roots and branches in a graphic way. Therefore I create a complex network of delicate, black ink lines. In this way, I try to concentrate on the pure forms that are visible. But also the idea of the flowing vitality inside the tree is part of the design.
Long hikes through the forest and to remote places are my source of inspiration. When I spend my time in nature, I often have my sketchbook with me to make quick sketches on the spot. They serve as a guide for me before I start to draw a specific tree or landscape in detail. In my eyes, trees and their impressive roots stand for vitality, stability and the cycle of life.
In the original, I drew the root with black micro-pigment ink on natural-colored paper. A network of fine lines.
