Dresden is a beautiful city in the east of Germany. The city on the Elbe was also called the Florence of Germany. The city with all its beautiful buildings was completely destroyed in the second world war. The ruins of the war disappeared behind the Iron Curtain and the decay of the city became worse and worse. After the unification in 1990 Dresden slowly recovered and the buildings were restored. Now the city is almost completely restored to its former glory. Especially the old centre is beautiful to see. On this picture you see the royal stables with the palace behind it. Nowadays the royal stables are more or less an 'ordinary' passage that you can visit for free. The stables and the huge space around them were built in the 16th century behind the palace, because they turned out to be perfect for horse races and jumping competitions. In the 18th century the stables were completely rebuilt in baroque style and they are definitely worth a visit.
