At first glance, it is probably not immediately obvious what we see here. An interesting interplay of planes, colours and textures, with round and rectangular shapes and mostly diagonal lines, and with captivating shading.
But then the penny drops: it is an old, rusty motorbike. The vehicle has probably been in the water of a Rotterdam harbour for quite a long time, because apart from rust, scratches and dirt, we can even see small shells nestling on the skeleton.
Once upon a time, this bike rushed along 's men's roads. Who's to say where it took its rider(s) all. But everything comes to an end. All the better that even the far-reaching decay of this piece of engineering has a certain beauty in it.
