Sainte-Thérèse Church in Savannakhet is one of the most moving reminders of the French colonial era in Laos. With its sober façade and European-inspired architecture, it evokes a time when cultures mingled in this peaceful Mekong town.
Built in the early 20th century, it remains an important place of worship for the local Catholic community. Its sober interior, colourful stained glass windows and discreet bell tower exude an atmosphere of peace and humility.
Surrounded by peaceful gardens and quiet streets, the church stands in stark contrast to the neighbouring Buddhist temples, a reminder of the spiritual diversity of Laos. At dawn or dusk, the soft light poetically illuminates its silhouette, inviting meditation and respect for the beliefs that coexist harmoniously here.
A place steeped in history, emotions and memories.
