I was standing by the playground in France. The children were happily jumping on a trampoline, my attention was caught by rustling under the bushes. I saw this cheerful friend watching us curiously. I called out to the children, the lizard hid but after I had taught the children to be very quiet, the lizard again emerged curiously between the leaves.
Gently I grabbed my camera, waited for her to show herself completely and KLIK. That way, I could show the children the lizard up close. But it's actually a nice picture for the wall too!
The pictured lizard is a female sand lizard that lives mainly in a dry and sunny area. In the Netherlands, they are mainly found in dune areas such as the Veluwe. Did you know that the male is mainly Green? The female is generally brown.
