The large Schrammtor is located on the western edge of the Schrammsteine. It forms a natural passageway between the high rocks of the Schrammsteine. A hiking trail, which is part of the Malerweg, leads directly through the large Schrammtor. The Schrammsteine are a highly jagged group of rocks to the east of Bad Schandau. The Schrammstein viewpoint is one of the most famous vantage points in Saxon Switzerland.
The Elbe Sandstone Mountains are located in the border region between Saxony and the Czech Republic, around 50 kilometres south of Dresden. The German part of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains is also known as Saxon Switzerland - the Czech part is known as Bohemian Switzerland. The landscape, characterised by bizarre rock formations, lies south-east of Dresden on both sides of the Elbe in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains. The Elbe Sandstone Mountains are also known as the "Grand Canyon of the East" due to the uniqueness of their rock formations.
There are many impressive and famous excursion destinations in Saxon Switzerland. Some of these include the Bastei with its impressive rock formation and the Bastei Bridge, Königstein Fortress, the Schrammsteine, the Kuhstall, the Lilienstein and the popular Malerweg hiking trail.
