The image was taken at the south pier of Scheveningen harbour near The Hague. By first holding the camera still and then moving it, I got a blending of the elements throughout the image. As if an impressionist painter was at work, but the photo still took on a character of its own. This method of photography is called ICM: Intentional Camera Movement. I love Scheveningen because I grew up nearby in The Hague.
Landscapes and townscapes are my favourite subjects. I search for beauty in the image; that can come from any of the compositional elements such as lines, shapes, rhythms, light/dark, colour combinations. For me a photograph is successful, when I can hang it on the wall.. Read more…
