To the west, the vast North Sea with its sandy beaches offers plenty of recreational opportunities and a typical coastal experience. To the east, the town borders the Wadden Sea, a dynamic UNESCO World Heritage Site that at low tide reveals a fascinating landscape of reclaimed sandbanks, rich in biodiversity and an important foraging area for birds.
