Seabird is an informal biological-ecological term for those species of birds that have adapted to live along or near the coast or in the sea. Seabirds are not a taxonomic group of related birds but species from different families that have in common that they catch their food primarily in the sea. The different families have several common adaptations to a life in the sea, such as a streamlined body and flippers between the toes. These adaptations are considered an example of convergent evolution.
