Mutukiekie beach is one of the less known beaches of New Zealand but for me one of the most beautiful. The beach is only accessible in the period from 1 hour before to 1 hour after low tide. Outside that period it is inaccessible because of the high tide.
The beach is located on the west coast, about 20 minutes drive south of the famous Punakaiki Pancake Rocks. The beach is known for its
beautiful seastacks. Rock formations in the water that partly dry out at low tide.
Besides the beautiful rock formations you can also enjoy tidal pools here. Because of the retreating water the rocks fall dry and puddles remain in which all kinds of marine life can be found.
