This infrared photo shows a lone tree on a hill, caught in a surreal light. Despite it being winter and the tree being bare, the branches still reflect a lot of infrared light, illuminating bright white against an almost black sky. This strong contrast creates a dreamy, otherworldly atmosphere, as if the tree were not of this world.
The picture exudes a sense of loneliness and mystery, but also of stillness and tranquillity. It is an image that invites the viewer to look longer and wonder what is going on beyond our visible spectrum.
The choice of black and white enhances the dramatic atmosphere and brings the shapes, textures and contrasts to the fore with added force.
