'Shallow' is another painting of one of my favourite subjects for figurative painting: water. I love capturing the sparkles, the energy and movement. Whether it is soft and cooling or effervescent and powerful. In this case, I wanted to capture the stillness of a gently flowing stream. The shimmering reflection of light that turns into a transparent part of the water's surface. That part grants us a glimpse into a hidden underwater world, where other life takes place. Like a mysterious peek into the subconscious.
Moreover, the chosen frame detaches the image from the surrounding world, giving it a more abstract character. That interface between photorealistic and abstract painting fascinates me immensely as a painting subject.
