When painting intuitively, I invariably use - unplanned - exuberant colours. Over the course of several years, a consistent style has developed purely by feel. The loose, wild brushstrokes, high-energy look and free feeling recur again and again in these paintings. All the nicer that now this work has appeared, Fleurs d'Hiver, winter flowers. I also choose titles on feelings and hunches. Earlier, for an other painting, I chose Fleurs d'Été, summer flowers. I was waiting for the moment when a artwork would present itself that would go well with it and represent one of the other seasons. With this work, it fitted. The style ties in very well with the earlier Fleurs d'Été, while the coolness and freshness are perfectly suited to the winter feeling.
Although spring can be felt in many of my other paintings, I'm curious to see when a work will present itself that fits exactly into the style of this Hiver en Été, as well as a work with the warm palette of autumn. It might just take a few more seasons.
Fleurs d'Hiver can also very well be placed with portrait orientation.
