Orvelte is a museum village in the municipality of Midden-Drenthe and consists largely of characteristic Saxon farmhouses, located on a small village square. This specific farm type is characterised by its triangular shape and has wood, thatch and brick as the main building materials. A small flock of sheep graze in the meadow in front of the farm.
This photo captures a serene rural scene with a large flock of sheep grazing in a lush green field. The sheep, predominantly white with a few black ones, are scattered across the foreground. In the background are two traditional Dutch farms with thatched roofs amid tall, leafy trees. The farms, built of dark brown wood, are partially hidden from view by dense foliage. The sky is overcast, casting a soft light on the scene, enhancing the pastoral calm. The picture exudes a peaceful, timeless atmosphere, with the sheep and windmills harmoniously coexisting in this picturesque rural setting. This photo was taken in October 2025
