Ship 'Europa
The Europa is a Dutch tall ship. The steel-hulled barque serves as a training ship. The ship is used for long sea voyages, including Tall Ships' Races and sailing trips to Antarctica and the South Atlantic. The Europa is operated by Rederij Bark Europa in Rotterdam.
History
The ship was built as a lightship in 1911 at a shipyard in Hamburg and was originally named Senator Brockes, after Barthold Heinrich Brockes. Until 1977 the ship was in service with the German Coast Guard on the Elbe. In 1985 the remains of the ship were bought by a Dutch buyer, who resold it to the current owner. The ship was converted to a sailing ship in Amsterdam and renamed Europa in 1994. In addition to a crew of 16, there is room for up to 48 trainees.
In 2003 the ship rounded Cape Horn for the first time. In 2010, it participated in Velas Sudamerica 2010, a tallship event to mark the 200th anniversary of the onf independence of Argentina and Chile.[1]
In 2013-2014, the Europa sailed around the world. Together with two other Dutch tallships, the Tecla and the Oosterschelde, the Europa sailed from South Africa to Mauritius, Australia and New Zealand. In October-December 2013, the Europa once again passed Cape Horn. The round-the-world voyage was completed in June 2014, when the ship arrived in Amsterdam.
In July 2014, the Europa departed from Harlingen to participate in the Tall Ships' Race. In 2015, the ship took part in Sail Amsterdam... (wikipedia)
