I took the picture of this tree on the misty, boring grey twilight afternoon of 11 November 2020.
Near home, in a forest where I don't know how many times I've been. A large part of the afternoon I wandered together with my brother-in-law Peter through the Biessumerbos, between Appingedam and Delfzijl.
I had never noticed this tree before and I still wouldn't have noticed it if Peter hadn't pointed it out to me.
When I saw it, I saw the picture right in front of me. So I went to work on it. Composition, long lens on and making sure my point of view was such that the tree came loose from the background.
This was another one of those moments where everything is right at once. Magical!
It wasn't until I saw the picture on my bigger screen at home that night that I got the definitive confirmation that this would become a so called 'keeper' again. One of the favourites in my collection and the proof that even without beautiful light it's possible to take good pictures.
The picture reminds me of Scotland, a place I love to come and haven't been for far too long. It felt a bit closer today.
