Sketch of a bird surrounded by scribbled thoughts by Emiel de Lange

A unique bird illustration in which hand-drawn art, personal reflections and warm earth tones come together. The basis of this artwork is an original sketch of a bird, created in my own sketchbook. Surrounding the bird are lines from my personal shorthand notes: random thoughts, inspirations and words that flowed directly from my mind onto the paper at that moment. To others, they are illegible, but it is precisely this that gives them an almost graphic and mysterious quality.

The combination of the delicate, expressive brush and pen drawing of the bird, the handwritten lines, and the splashes and smudges gives the work an authentic, artistic feel. The original sketch was then digitally edited, enlarged and, whilst retaining the hand-drawn details, transformed into a high-quality art print.

The warm colours lend the piece a calm and atmospheric feel. Taupe, camel, beige, sand and a touch of terracotta combine to form a natural, earthy colour palette that complements a warm and modern interior beautifully.

This modern bird art fits well with various interior styles, from rustic and natural to modern, Scandinavian, Japandi and bohemian. Thanks to its vertical format and the bird’s elegant form, it also makes for a lovely piece of wall art for the living room, bedroom, hall or study.

A understated piece of art with a personal story, in which the boundary between drawing, illustration, text and abstract wall art becomes blurred.
