Nabesna Road is located in the breathtaking Wrangell-St.Elias National Park. You can enjoy nature for days in this beautiful National Park in Alaska. During a walk called Skookum Volcano we walked through a partly dry riverbed. In the spring, more water will flow here. There are large trees and huge boulders in the riverbed. Now it is all quiet and friendly. Fine to make a nice wall. At the beginning of the 4 km long path we are warned about bears. The first part of the path runs freely through a forest. As we progress, it gets even steeper and the trees disappear. Alpine plants are used instead. We also have to climb and clamber more and more to get up over the rocks. At a certain moment we are being watched. Pieppiep, and then again pieppiep. Always in a different place. It is a ground squirrel. He tries to attract our attention. The animal may have a litter in the environment. We climb steadily. Until we reach the highest point about 1780 meters, almost 850 meters we have climbed. Time to rest and have something to eat. At the moment we just want to take a bite, I see something moving in my corner of the eye. It is white / gray and they are with a large number. Dalls sheep. There are 30. It is wonderful to see the animals go over the ridge looking for fresh grass. Especially the young animals are jumping around playfully. The view of the mountain pass is beautiful.
