About "Sky and Concrete"

by Hans Kwaspen

About the artwork

As an abstract art photographer, my aim is to capture the unobtrusive beauty of everyday architecture. This work, titled "Sky and Concrete", captures the interaction between man-made structures and the endless sky. The two rectangular, beige structures stand out sharply against the clear blue sky, creating an interplay of geometric shapes and minimalism that intrigues and excites the viewer.

My inspiration for this piece came from a walk through an abandoned industrial estate. The simple elegance of the clean lines and subtle colours of the concrete structures against the vast sky brought a sense of serenity and infinity to me. This photograph captures that moment of serenity and reflection, where the viewer pauses to contemplate the harmony between nature and architecture.

The mood evoked by this work is one of calm and introspection. It invites the viewer to appreciate the simplicity and beauty of architecture and escape for a moment from the hectic pace of everyday life. This work fits within the movement of minimalist photography, similar to the work of Hiroshi Sugimoto and Andreas Gursky, who also explore the quiet power of simple shapes and lines.

What makes this work so special is the balance between simplicity and complexity. It is a work of art that continues to fascinate, each time you look at it you discover new nuances and meanings. It is a perfect addition for on the wall, a source of calm and a start to conversations.
