Cadiz is an ancient port city on the Costa de la Luz in the far south-west of Spain.
The city lies on a headland and is surrounded by water on three sides. Because of its strategic location, it is an important defensive stronghold.
Cadiz was founded around 1100 BC under the name Gadir, meaning walled city. In the pedestrian area of the historic centre, besides narrow streets, you will find a beautiful cathedral and the former watchtower Torre Tavira.
Along Cadiz's coastal strip runs a kilometre-long cycle path. From here you have great views of the coast as well as the city, this photo was taken.
