In the early morning light, a flamingo opens its eye, looking to see where that sound I am making is coming from. The flamingo is a beautiful large wading bird. With its long wading legs, it wades slowly through the water in search of food. The food of flamingos varies from species to species. Larger flamingos mostly eat crustaceans, molluscs and worms while the smaller flamingos mainly eat microscopic algae.
But this flamingo is not yet eating its breakfast. Its beak is tucked deep into the feathers on its back. Its feathers have a beautiful colour palette from soft orange to pink and even white with all shades in between. The pastel colours are supported with the light yellow-green background softened by the morning sun.
The flamingo's yellow eye draws all the attention to itself in this composition, looking at you piercingly. The flamingo seems to be thinking "...what are you doing here? Should I wake up and flee or can I stay snoozing and dreaming?"
