About ‘Solargraph 26-1-007 'Chagai-I'’ by Daniel Laan

Powerful bands of salmon-pink and white light rise like a mountain face above the dark foreground. This solargraph was exposed over a period of six months in an empty tin can camera fitted with photographic paper and a pinhole, set up in the Schoorl Dunes during the first half of 2026. After scanning, the negative was interpreted using colour, contrast and tension. The work forms part of *Within the Blast Radius*, a series that translates recurring dreams into what someone might perceive in the final seconds before a nuclear explosion.
