About ‘Song of the bluethroat’ by Robert Jan Smit

Sometimes you don’t have to look far to see something special—you just have to listen carefully. The bluethroat, a relatively small songbird, is often heard before it is seen. But the moment it reveals itself, as here, beak open and singing at the top of its voice, a brief but intense spectacle unfolds. What makes this bird so special is, of course, its namesake: the deep blue breast, which in the right light almost seems to glow. Beneath it, subtle shades of rust-brown and white, like a carefully painted detail that makes every sighting unique. It is a bird that not only sings, but also tells a story—of territory, of presence, of life. In this photograph, the focus is entirely on that moment of expression. The open beak suggests movement, sound and energy, whilst the soft, blurred background draws all attention to the subject. The contrast between the tranquil surroundings and the powerful song makes the image almost audible. The bluethroat often lives in reed beds and wetlands, where it hides amongst the greenery. That is precisely why an encounter like this feels so special—a small window into a world that usually remains hidden. This image captures not just a bird, but a moment of pure instinct. A fraction of a second in which everything comes together: colour, form and sound. A reminder that nature is not still, but constantly in motion—if only you look and listen closely enough.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
