About ‘South of the Border’ by Artur Chen

A masterpiece that profoundly integrates Conceptual Art with Psychogeography, its title echoing Haruki Murakami's South of the Border, West of the Sun. The canvas is dominated by a vast, textured smoky grey background, symbolising a boundless sense of melancholy and nostalgia. Scattered across the field are symbolic markers: vibrant red dots, a solitary white cross, the linear silhouette of a vessel, and a bold, energetic red scribble. Central to the work is a hand-scribed artistic directive: "1. Plastik, 2. potentielle Arithmetik... nach Element 3." This piece captures the longing for a "borderline" that remains just out of reach, presenting art as a plan, an experiment, and a journey into the subconscious.
