The spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia) is a bird of the ibis and spoonbill family. The spoonbill has a length of about 80 to 93 cm. The spoonbill is immediately recognizable by its spatula-shaped widened black beak, which is yellow at the front. The bird is white with yellow/light orange spots. The extended cup springs form a bushy crest.
The bird occurs in wet meadows, near ditches, on mudflats and mudflats. The food consists of fish, aquatic animals, snails, insects and worms, including some parts of plants.
