On a sunny spring afternoon, I stood at Kinderdijk, overlooking one of the windmills that make this area so typically Dutch. In the foreground, turnip seeds bloomed bright yellow among the reeds, softly out of focus in the picture through a slight bokeh. The sky was bright blue with a white cloud here and there - exactly the kind of weather that makes the landscape shine.
The mill was on the right in the picture, stately and familiar. The lines of reeds and water led subtly to this recognisable silhouette. Everything felt fresh, open and alive - a classic Dutch spring at its best.
What struck me was how familiar and fresh this image felt at the same time. You know the image of Kinderdijk, but with flowering rapeseed and that bright afternoon light, it takes on new energy.
Would you like to see this primal Dutch spring on your wall - full of colour, space and recognition?
