About ‘Spring in the Hollandse Waterlinie’ by Raoul Baart

A position of the Hollandse Waterlinie, a string of defensive positions dating from the period around 1880, covered by flowering rapeseed. This defensive position was built during the mobilisation in the first world war, to strengthen the by then outdated Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie. In the late thirties of the twentieth century, just before the outbreak of the Second World War, the position was further expanded but did not serve during the fighting in the May Days of 1940.
Amazing to be able to enjoy such peace in a place originally built for war.
