An underappreciated bird, the starling. With its beautiful markings and, in good light, wonderful oily glass over its black plumage, the starling is more beautiful than many will think.
We know the starling mainly as the birds that display amazing choreographies in the sky by the thousands. Being allowed to photograph one was therefore a wish of mine.
This one was enjoying the evening sun with many of its friends in the Groenzoom near Rotterdam.
Nature in the Netherlands is beautiful and photographing birds, in particular, has made me realise this more and more. It has made me look at the diversity of fauna in the Netherlands with different eyes. And partly because of this, I was able to (re)discover the many species our country has to offer. It has opened up a new world for me.
This photo deserves a place on the wall of someone with a weakness for birds, nature or who just likes this picture. Who knows, maybe this photo will spark more interest in Dutch nature.
