This picture was taken deep in the far north, at the remote Myrkulla Lodge in Swedish Lapland - a place where the night is still truly dark. It shows the dancing aurora borealis in a luminous arc over a still lake, accompanied by circular trails of stars. These originate from a long exposure time, which transforms each star into a fine orbit and lends the image a cosmic dynamic.
The sky is in motion, the water is still. The reflection of the green Aurora Borealis on the surface of the water enhances the magic of the moment. The contrast between the moving light in the sky and the deep calm of the earth is palpable. It is a motif of contrasts - and of beauty in stillness. The surroundings become a resonating space for light, space and time.
What you can't see: Courage was required for this picture. It was created during a ten-day journey all alone in the solitude of Lapland. The surroundings were quiet, almost eerie - and yet they were just right for this motif. Surrounded by darkness, with the remote shutter release in my hand and my heart pounding, I created a picture that not only shows light, but also inner strength. In moments like this, you learn to speak to the silence - or to yourself.
Long exposures require technique, patience and good preparation. Temperature, wind, camera settings - everything has to be right. The star trails are only created in complete darkness and over many minutes. The sky circles, the earth rotates - and the camera captures it all. What cannot be shown in seconds is revealed in slowness.
This motif is more than just a landscape image. It is a journey - outwards and inwards.

I then bought my digital SLR camera in 2014. The first photos..
