The starry sky, also called the firmament, is the name for the sky that one sees when looking up on clear and dark nights. Objects that can be observed are the Moon, stars, comets, planets and even distant nebulae and galaxies. One eye-catching phenomenon is the Milky Way, a thick band of stars and interstellar dust that runs across the night sky. This galaxy is actually a spiral arm of the galaxy in which our own Sun and Earth are located.
