A stately mansion on the Herengracht in Muiden. The river Vecht used to be an important navigational link between the Rhine, Utrecht and the Zuiderzee. At Muiden, the Vecht emptied into the Zuiderzee from where people could sail to Amsterdam and all sorts of exotic places further afield in the world. Muiderslot castle protected this connection and rich merchants built beautiful houses along the river.
