At the beginning of the Puch 500 only the body was taken over from Fiat and a stronger engine with 16 HP (1957-1959) was built in. This was later increased to 25 hp and this made the Puch 500 so popular at the hillclimb races which took place all over Europe in the 50s to 80s. It was fast, extremely maneuverable and the fuel consumption was even lower than the original Fiat Nouva 500.
