Still life with burning candle, Pieter Claesz Pieter Claesz specialised in balanced still lifes with little colour. This painting is a good example of that. Despite the limited palette, Claesz was able to depict the various materials convincingly, such as the copper of the candlestick, the iron of the muzzle and the wine in the drinking glass. Of particular note is how he made the candlelight reflect.
