Frans Snyders was one of the most famous Flemish painters of the 17th century. Originally from Antwerp, Snyders trained with the famous Flemish artists Pieter Brueghel the Younger (c. 1564-1637/1638) and Hendrick van Balen (1575-1632). He achieved international fame with his beautiful still lifes of market displays, hunting trophies and tabletops full of fruit and game. Over the course of his career, Snyders often collaborated with Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640). He painted the still life and animal elements in many of Rubens's best-known compositions.
