In this black-and-white photograph from Shibuya, Tokyo, a vendor stands motionless amid the stream of people. He holds a billboard that stands tall and angular above his head.

People walk past him without really looking, their bodies vaguely moved captured by the shutter speed, as if they are ghosts who do not care about his presence. The salesman, on the other hand, is sharp and silent, like an anchor in the chaos.
The image is raw, human, and somewhere tragic: a moment of stasis in a city that never stops moving.
