The Eastern Mebon, one of the emblematic temples of Angkor in Cambodia, is a remarkable testimony to 10th-century Khmer art and architecture. This photograph captures the main entrance to the sanctuary, flanked by carved lions standing proudly on guard. The construction materials, mainly sandstone and laterite, give the building a texture and hues that change subtly in the sunlight. Once located at the centre of an immense artificial reservoir that has now dried up, the Eastern Mebon was dedicated to Shiva and served as a sacred place of worship. The prasat-shaped towers and bas-reliefs bear witness to the exceptional skills of the craftsmen of the time. The contrast between the aged stone and the blue sky highlights the timeless grandeur of the site. This site, steeped in serenity and history, transports visitors back to a time when religion and architecture intertwined to create timeless works of art.
