This picture shows a street scene in Vienna's city centre. For Vienna connoisseurs: the street is right next to the Albertina.
On this day, Vienna was not exactly showing its best side: rainy weather, a dreary atmosphere and therefore few people in the streets...
But it is moments like these that often inspire me to take particularly interesting photographs.
I wanted to show the quiet, almost time-forgetfulness of the Inner City in rainy weather - and at the same time connect it with a quote to my famous colleague Franz Hubmann, who had an exhibition at the time.
With this picture I wanted to express my love for my hometown Vienna, which offers beautiful, harmonious perspectives at all times and in all weather conditions.
I already saw this picture as a classic black and white photograph when I took it. The reduction to a monochrome representation brings out the mood and the play of light and shadow in combination with the wet pavement.
