This painting is based on a photograph I took myself in the heart of West Flanders, where the tranquillity of the countryside meets the gentle Flemish sky. The meandering stream reflects the white clouds drifting by above the green landscape, while in the distance a farmstead with red roofs anchors the scene in the familiar charm of Flemish farmhouses.
With brushstrokes reminiscent of the old Dutch masters, I tried to capture the play of light and shadow so typical of the West Flemish polders. This work aims not only to show a landscape, but also to evoke the feeling of a summer day when time seems to stand still.
