On a quiet morning in nature reserve Plantloon, on the edge of the Loonse and Drunense Dunes, everything coincided exactly. A layer of mist still hung between the trees when the sun broke through. Because of the moisture in the air, powerful sunrays, also known as solar harps or Jacob's ladders, appeared.
The path curved slightly through an old avenue of trees, with tall trunks on either side that filtered the light. The beams of sunlight fell dead straight between the trunks, illuminating the forest floor and grass edges with a soft golden glow. The contrast between the dark front part of the path and the light background created a nice depth in the composition.
Plantloon is an estate with stately avenues and deciduous forest. In the early morning, especially in foggy conditions, such places often provide photogenic rays of light. A classic image from the Dutch forest in the transition from summer to autumn.
