The beautiful area around Yudanaka on the northern side of the Japanese Alps is known for its many natural hot springs. The place is therefore officially called Yudanaka Onsen because of the volcanic hot springs found here. Yet it is not just the spas that attract visitors but also the famous snow monkeys that come to bathe in the springs of the nature reserve in winter. The monkeys lie in the warm water daydreaming and chilling.
The monkeys roam freely. At the end of the afternoon, the monkeys usually move back into the forest.
