A 16:9 photo of a sunrise at a fens in the Dwingelderveld National Park, Western Europe's largest wet heathland area. Located in the Dutch province of Drenthe, in the triangle Dwingeloo, Ruinen and Beilen, wet lowlands and high sand ridges alternate in the vast Dwingelderveld.
You will find heathland, woods, juniper bushes, shifting sands and over forty fens. Some of these fens originated in the ice age, others are the result of peat excavation.
