About ‘Sunrise near Zutphen’ by Alexander Tromp

The sky colours beautifully in the morning, announcing the sunrise over the eastern horizon. On this chilly morning, a good layer of fog hangs over the river IJssel. The fog and the colouring morning light reveal a beautiful detail of why Zutphen is called the Tower City; of Zutphen's four historic towers, Walburgiskerk and Drogenapstoren stand out clearly against the coloured sky. In the foreground, seen from Zutphen across the IJssel, a lone tree stands in the floodplain.
