This was my first evening in Lisbon, and Mother Nature turned out great with this fantastic sunset.
The Senhora do Monte viewpoint is located in the parish of São Vicente ( Graça ) in Lisbon .
The viewpoint develops in front of the chapel of Nossa Senhora do Monte. From there you can see in the south the Palha Sea, the castle of São Jorge, part of the Baixa de Lisboa, and the estuary of the Tagus. To the west from Bairro Alto to the forest of Monsanto, and to the north the valley of Avenida Almirante Reis.
Adjacent to this viewpoint is the small old chapel of Nossa Senhora do Monte (classified as a building of public interest), founded in 1147 and consecrated to St. Gens, bishop who, according to tradition, was tortured here. It was on this old Monte de São Gens that D. Afonso Henriques installed the camp to conquer the city.
The viewpoint is located in the small vault and was renovated twice in the twentieth century. Located at the highest point of Bairro da Graça, it is one of the places with the best panoramic views over the city, especially over Mouraria and the castle of São Jorge.
