The playful dune paths lead you to the lighthouse which proudly towers above the horizon against a pink/purple background during sunset. Ameland's lighthouse has been a national monument since 1982. Until 2005, the lighthouse was also used by the coastguard. After that, the ownership of the lighthouse was transferred to the municipality of Ameland, where the spaces were used as a museum.
