Sunset on the Ligurian coast | Tellaro, Italy by Kilometer 120 | René Metzinger

The sun has almost disappeared behind the horizon, leaving a narrow, intensely luminous streak across the Ligurian Sea. Above it, darker clouds drift across the pink and violet-hued evening sky, whilst the coastline in the distance is now visible only as a silhouette. The large rocks in the foreground dominate the composition. From here, the natural line of the rocks extends far out into the sea, towards the last light of the day. The photograph was taken with an exposure time of four seconds. This visibly smooths out the movement of the waves without making the sea appear completely still. Between the rocks, the textures and individual movements of the water are preserved.

The photograph was taken with a 15 mm wide-angle lens, an aperture of f/14 and ISO 100. The low shooting angle makes the rocks appear particularly powerful and creates a distinct sense of depth from the immediate foreground to the distant horizon. Unlike many classic sunset photographs, this image does not rely solely on the colours of the sky. The dark clouds, the calm water and the rugged rocks lend the scene a somewhat more natural character and show the Ligurian coast at its most tranquil on this particular evening.

Thanks to its wide landscape format, this image is particularly well suited to larger wall spaces in the living room or dining area, as well as a bedroom, a study or a room with modern and natural décor.
