This picture shows a sunset over a wheat field.
The image is divided into two horizontal halves: sky and earth. In the lower part of the picture is a vast field of grain that has just been mowed. The straw yellow, warm colour of the grain contrasts with the cooler light of the sky. The field is hilly and the horizon is not tight. In the middle, just on the horizon, are a few dark silhouettes of trees.
The top half of the picture is dominated by a discoloured sky. At the bottom of the sky, soft shades of pink and orange are visible, indicating the setting sun. Towards the top of the image, this changes to a deeper, darker blue. A few aircraft stripes cross the sky, adding a dynamic element to this otherwise tranquil landscape.
The overall mood of the picture is soothing, serene and melancholic.
