This was one of the first evenings I went to photograph tulips. Way up in the north of North Holland is a beautiful windmill with a huge field of tulips in front of it. I arrived about an hour before sunset and it was already crowded. In the distance, a characteristic shower of rain swept past the tulip field from left to right. I waited until the shower of rain aligned perfectly with the mill and the setting sun to create balance in the photo.
The straight lines of the tulip field lead the viewer straight to the mill into the photo. The beautiful colours of the tulips create a nice harmony with the sky. You don't often see them in this colour, white with soft pink. The tulip field changes every year. A grower can only grow tulips in the same field once every five years. That this field looked so beautiful in line with the windmill and that the shower rain positioned itself so nicely is unique and will therefore not happen again for the next 5 years.
