A beautiful sunset spreading a warm glow of golden light across a wintry Drenthe moorland. The steel-blue coloured "river" in which the powerful pines are reflected wrinkle-free is in reality not a river. It is a footpath that has completely filled with clear water due to persistent rain and frost in the ground.
A unique situation exceptional for this dry moorland. Windless, beautiful reflection, blue sky with an underbrush of purple light due to the threat of thunderstorms.
Despite the warmth of the picture, the temperature was just above freezing and a few hours later the water was frozen over again. The photo may not be unique, it is the particular situation that makes it unique.
A few months later, I was back at this spot and the water had disappeared and the dry sandy path had returned.
That's the special thing about nature, it seems unmoving but it can change in mere seconds. Especially the light, too much light doesn't work and a cloud in front of the sun can totally change the picture.
I was happy to capture this image and did my best to capture the atmosphere I noticed. It was as if the world stood still for a moment.
