To me Surfinias mean summer. They are a type of trailing petunia, very popular here in Italy, as they thrive on balconies or grown in pots and give the gift of beautiful flowers for a long time. The cascading displays of flowers can be quite eye-catching. Italians living in towns and/or apartments rarely have gardens so growing plants in pots on balconies, at the front door, or even hanging on the wall are popular ways of ensuring displays of gorgeous flowers in spite of the limitation. It also helps that they grow well in sun or partial sun - sun being something we have in abundance!
Did you know that Surfinia was originally grown in Japan, though it derives from a vigorous wild petunia that is grown in Brazil?
This image shows a close up of several Surfinia plants with gorgeous open, trumpet flowers in shades of pink with light edges going to a dark throat.
